Discord Will Put Public Server Messages Into Web Search

Discord has announced that discussions in its “Discoverable Servers,” the most public communities on the platform, will soon be easier to find through web search. Discoverable Servers are listed in Server Discovery so anyone can join without an invite link; they need at least 1,000 members, and Discord says there are more than 63,000 of them. Private servers, direct messages and group DMs are not part of the change.

Per Discord’s announcement, every Discoverable Server will get a public “Server Web Page” starting 16 November 2026. These pages may show summaries of what is being discussed in public channels. Some messages from public channels may then appear on those pages and in web search from mid-December 2026, with a gradual rollout. Discord says usernames and avatars will not be shown next to messages. BleepingComputer adds that messages posted before the release date will be excluded and that content-sharing stays off by default for users in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea, who must switch it on themselves; BleepingComputer also reports that underage users are excluded until they turn 18.

The catch for ordinary members is the default: if neither the server admin nor the user changes anything, public channels and messages are included. BleepingComputer notes that changing the user setting only affects future messages, and messages that have already become public cannot be pulled back. The two outlets differ on one detail: BleepingComputer says the only way for an admin to avoid a Server Web Page is to make the server private, while Discord says admins can opt individual channels, or all channels, out of sharing.

How to check if you’re affected

Affected products are Discord Discoverable Servers, and the people who post in them; check which of your servers are listed in Server Discovery or have at least 1,000 members and are open to anyone.

  • If you post in a Discoverable Server: open User Settings > Data and Privacy and turn off the setting that lets your channel messages be shown. Discord says one setting covers channel messages in every Discoverable Server, and that you can turn it off now, before messages start appearing in mid-December. Do this before posting anything you would not want searchable, since earlier public messages cannot be retracted according to BleepingComputer.
  • If you run a Discoverable Server: open Server Settings > Web Presence to choose which channels take part or to opt all channels out. Discord says controls are available now and its default leaves public channels on. Channel summaries are generated separately and still appear on the Server Web Page unless admins turn them off.
  • If your server is small or private: Discord says the change does not apply, so no action is needed.
